Billing Policy
Port Hedland Medical Centre (PHMC) is a private, mixed‑billing General Practice. Operating under a mixed‑billing model means patients with Medicare who meet specific criteria are bulk billed, and others are privately billed. This model allows us to remain a sustainable healthcare service while continuing to provide high‑quality care to our community—now and into the future
Who We Bulk Bill
PHMC bulk bills the following patients with Medicare:
· All children under 16 years of age
· Aged pensioners
· All DVA Gold Card holders
Patients who do not have Medicare or do not meet these criteria should expect to pay a private fee, payable at the end of the consultation. Eligible patients may receive a Medicare rebate for part of this fee.
Billing Decisions
The final billing decision is made by the treating doctor and may depend on several factors, including practice policy, clinical presentation, and appointment length. If you do not meet the above bulk‑billing criteria, a bulk‑billed appointment should not be expected.
Patients failing to attend appointments or not give at least 4 hrs notice will be charged a fee
Please see the following link for more information on bulk billing and claiming back costs of your appointment: https://www.servicesaustralia.gov.au/bulk-billing
